SI Reveals Honey Badger Received Benefits

Former LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu, or the Honey Badger as he’s widely known, may get into more trouble after Sports Illustrated published their cover story on him online today. In their story, SI reveals that since January Mathieu has allowed his image to be used on promotional flyers for a local night club, appeared in promotional videos and received benefits at the club. His possible return to the LSU football team or any other team next year may be in jeopardy.

SI took the initiative to get this story out to the public, no matter what the consequences. Is this another jinx for the Honey Badger?

Florida’s First Female High School Varsity QB

To go along with today’s topic of female athletes being featured in the media, recently a female senior at South Plantation High School in Plantation, Fla. garnered media attention for being Florida’s first female high school quarterback. I think the fact that this story is unique is one reason why it’s getting so much attention from the media. Do you think media coverage of this story is a stepping stone for more coverage of female athletes? Or is this story just so unique that that’s the only reason it is being covered?

Tell us what you think!

Is another scandal on the rise for USC?

The NCAA is investigating claims that two former USC athletes accepted improper benefits. Former tailback Joe McKnight and former men’s basketball player Davon Jefferson allegedly received a car, an airline ticket and thousands of dollars from a former county appraiser, Scott Schenter. It is uncertain what Schenter’s interest in the two former players was. USC is still on probation for violations involving another pair of athletes, former running back Reggie Bush and former men’s basketball player O.J. Mayo. The football team can now participate in a postseason after two years of sitting out.

Lance Armstrong to Lose Tour de France Titles

After on-going allegations of drug use during his career, legendary cyclist Lance Armstrong has decided to stop fighting the charges issued by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency. As a result, the USADA  said Armstrong will be stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and may be banned from competitive cycling for life. Armstrong said that his refusal to engage in the USADA’s arbitration process is not an admission of guilt.

“There comes a point in every man’s life when he has to say, “Enough is enough.” For me, that time is now,” Armstrong said in a statement sent to The Associated Press. He called the USADA investigation an “unconstitutional witch hunt.”
